Under some circumstances MediaMonkey for Windows fails to open when you start MediaMonkey for Windows.
- Hardware Acceleration can cause problems. MediaMonkey for Windows will be hung on the splash screen (if enabled) and the window won’t load. An error dialog won’t be shown. This issue can occur on some Discrete GPU Models that aren’t powerful enough. Solutions:
- First try updating the Drivers for your GPU.
- If updated drivers doesn’t solve the problem then run MediaMonkey by using MediaMonkey_NoGPU.bat (located in the folder where MediaMonkey is installed) to start MediaMonkey instead of MediaMonkey.exe to disable hardware acceleration. It will instruct MediaMonkey to use the CPU instead of the GPU. Tools > Options > Performance allows you to enable/disable hardware acceleration within MediaMonkey.
- The MediaMonkey for Windows database file has a corruption and MediaMonkey for Windows fails to open. This will often show an error indicating an issue with the database. To solve:
- Rename the MediaMonkey database file from mm5.db to mm5.db.old
- Start MediaMonkey for Windows
- If MediaMonkey seems to launch, but then close it may be your Antivirus killing MediaMonkey. This is normally due to a false positive. In this case first check if there is an update to your Antivirus and install updated definitions and/or version if available.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, if you’re comfortable with this, you can create an exception for MediaMonkey or temporarily disable the Antivirus (you may want to disconnect from the internet when doing so) to check if this is the issue. If this solves the issue, report the false positive to the Antivirus provider so they can update their definitions.
